Buckeye burl is a very unique west coast burl which forms on the root system of the tree. The random color patterns that naturally occur along with the sculptural edges make this one of the most interesting burls that I work with. All of the circular vases listed here come with a glass vial to be used with live flowers. All other flower vases containing either a glass vial or metal cup will hold water. Flowers not included.

The process for turning hollow forms is to roughly turn the piece to size, leaving it oversized for a few months to allow for drying. The outside is turned first, then the inside is slowly removed with turning tools by hand while spinning on the lathe. After the piece is dry, it is returned to the lathe and turned to it's final shape and wall thickness. The solid block of wood that I started with is now a beautiful hollow vessel.
The Norfolk Island pine bowls are turned from log sections of the tree where the limbs form concentrically around the trunk. I turn the wall thickness thin enough to allow the red nots in the bowl to become translucent when exposed to light. These are delicate bowls which are for decorative use only.
